![]() ![]() My best guess is either poor insulation (likely) or that you’re paying for gas someone else is using (how professional is the apartment building? Can you clearly trace your meter to your appliances and to no one else’s? This is a less likely cause).Ĭheck out, or ask your landlord to check out, MassSave. My upstairs unit is 3 bed 2 bath 1300 sqft and I’m not at your level of usage. It doesn’t make sense to me how much you’re using. It makes sense to me that your usage is way up. is your place well insulated? Mine was MassSave insulated about a decade ago. But, I also have thermostatic valves on radiators ( the third floor, because enough heat rises to keep it 60+ for sleeping, but if it were to drop below 62 ish then the system would heat it). for comparison, I live upstairs (duplex in Somerville), 1300 sqft, keep it at 65 over night and when no one’s home and 69 during the day, used 115 therms. So with the cold, usage was definitely up. This is a vacant unit in my building, so constant temperature, for 800 sqft. Total bill for heating to 58 degrees flat this time, water heater on vacation mode, total bill $43 for 15 therms. Note, rates are in the process of changing, and depending on your supplier, you may already have adjusted to the new rates. what is your delivery cost per therm and what is your supply cost per therm? Mine is delivery $10 Base plus $1.15 per therm, supply $1.06 per therm.Dec 2021 only used 133 therms, so jumping up to 333 with the current bill doesn't make any sense. You can see how the original December bill was canceled and then doubled++ with a revised bill. UPDATE: For anyone curious, here is our most recent bill breakdown. They just say, "no, our system shows you used that much gas." ![]() I called them yesterday and said the meter is still wildly off. We were expecting to get a huge credit for overpayment and it was the exact opposite. We had a technician came out and he thought the meter was tied to a different account, no in our building. ) In Dec 2021 we used only 133 therms and during this current 40 day period, National Grid bill had 334 therms and the bill was $800! We definitely didn't use that much in the last 40 days. The house temp was about 55 degrees before this. (Perhaps for 12hrs each set to 62 degrees. It's a 2 bedroom apartment and we only turned the heat on 5x during this period. We just got our gas bill that covered 40 days for our home.
